Theme: The cost in getting to know Jesus intimately.

Text: Philippians 3 : 1 – 15 (KJV)

1 Finally, my brethren, rejoice in the Lord. To write the same things to you, to me indeed is not grievous, but for you it is safe.

2 Beware of dogs, beware of evil workers, beware of the concision.

3 For we are the circumcision, which worship God in the spirit, and rejoice in Christ Jesus, and have no confidence in the flesh.

4 Though I might also have confidence in the flesh. If any other man thinketh that he hath whereof he might trust in the flesh, I more:

5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

6 Concerning zeal, persecuting the church; touching the righteousness which is in the law, blameless.

7 But what things were gain to me, those I counted loss for Christ.

8 Yea doubtless, and I count all things but loss for the excellency of the knowledge of Christ Jesus my Lord: for whom I have suffered the loss of all things, and do count them but dung, that I may win Christ,

9 And be found in him, not having mine own righteousness, which is of the law, but that which is through the faith of Christ, the righteousness which is of God by faith:

10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

13 Brethren, I count not myself to have apprehended: but this one thing I do, forgetting those things which are behind, and reaching forth unto those things which are before,

14 I press toward the mark for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus.

15 Let us therefore, as many as be perfect, be thus minded: and if in any thing ye be otherwise minded, God shall reveal even this unto you.

Introduction:
The meaning of intimacy is close familiarity, or friendship , closeness. And also sexually.

The question is ask, is not salvation free what cost do I have to pay? Good question. I will like to say that salvation is free, as the word of God says we are saved by Grace through faith, and not by ourselves it is a gift from God. But with everything even if it is free or we spend money, they is something that we call mentainace which we keep it on good standing. That is why the word of God says we need to work out our salvation with fear and trimbling. And that we need to walk as children of the light, also we need to walk by the Spirit. So even if salvation is free we have the job of keeping it in good standing and it comes with a cost. And we will be looking at this cost.

Main point

1. Forsaking our confidence in the the flesh. ( vs. 1-12)

5 Circumcised the eighth day, of the stock of Israel, of the tribe of Benjamin, an Hebrew of the Hebrews; as touching the law, a Pharisee;

10 That I may know him, and the power of his resurrection, and the fellowship of his sufferings, being made conformable unto his death;

11 If by any means I might attain unto the resurrection of the dead.

12 Not as though I had already attained, either were already perfect: but I follow after, if that I may apprehend that for which also I am apprehended of Christ Jesus.

* As long as we put our confidence in our accomplishments and achievements, then it hinders us from really trusting in the Creator and master. When we wake up every morning it is nothing that we have done but, the favor and blessings of the Master that is upon us. The minute we start seeing that whatever we have and whatever we have accomplished is because God has allow you to accomplish it, for a specific reason then we are getting closer to our Master and Savior. His Holy word says that if we want to be His disciples we have to deny ourselves, take up our cross and follow Him. That is the cost we have to pay to be intimate with our Savoir. The question is are you willing to pay that cost to know Him intimately?

2. Forsaking our thought that we have arrived. ( vs. 13-16)

* Many people thinks because the have accomplished certain things in life, or because of their family standing in society, they think that they are all that and a bag of chips. They believe that people should worship and adore them, oh I have arrived. But as Paul said he have not attain the prize yet and we too will never attain to the prize of perfection, until we see Jesus face to face in heaven.

* What is the cost you are willing to pay in getting to know Jesus intimately? Or are you too caught up with yourself that you are not willing to give it up for the cause of know Jesus personally? The word of God say, what will a man give in exchange for his soul? Or what does it profit to gain the whole world but lose your soul? To know Jesus intimately is to go beyond your head knowledge of Him to a experiential knowledge of Him, and that is costly, not money costly but selflessness, loyal, devoted and sacrificial kind of lifestyle.
